Three men trapped as cave collapsed in StCatherine. The search and rescue operation being carried out in a section of the Salt Pond area of St Catherine was called off late Monday evening due to poor lighting.

Loop News received confirmation from the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), as authorities have still been unable to ascertain the identities of the trapped men.

“The search was called off at around 8:30 pm, however we’re still in the dark as it relates to credible identification,” a representative explained.

According to information received from the CCU, three men are suspected to be trapped inside a cave that collapsed under their weight on Monday, August 1.

Reports are that about 10 am, four men were extracting water from the cave, to a nearby farm when they got into difficulties.

Loop News understands that one man managed to escape and was taken to hospital where he is being treated.

The other three men remain in the cave.
